About the conference
The Groupe "Groupe Technique Bâti historique, Structures en pierre et maçonnerie et Séismes" of the Association Française du Génie Parasismique is pleased to invite you on 2022 May 24th and 25th to the conference "Masonry’s resistance and resilience to earthquakes" that will take place in Paris.
Masonry has long been the most reliable of all structural materials. Having a lower ultimate strength on density ratio than today’s alternatives, it is no longer a fit choice in seismic areas. Nevertheless, its resilience and durability have made possible the transmission of a huge cultural heritage throughout Europe, and its low environmental footprint shows promise for future sustainable developments. Questioning these contradictions is a possible path toward discoveries, which can help to preserve the heritage and produce new buildings with high environmental and material qualities.
Masonry structures under seismic hazards are being treated in several international recurring meetings. The purpose of this conference is to propose an occasion to discuss a specific topic in detail.
The conference aims to cluster experts from different countries involved in several fields (earthquake engineering, architecture, building archaeology, seismology, etc.) and share information on masonry structures' seismic resilience. Especially, the presentation of earthquake-resistant constructive strategies, observed on ancient buildings or new ones, will be most welcome.
